Sibling rivalries strike again here in my blog this weekend, only this time I’m talking about the high and low temperature brothers. You know the pair: they’re a part of every forecast, and you can’t have one without the other.
But let’s face it: The high temperature gets ALL the publicity and attention. They’re the figurative megastar Justin Timberlake with Chance of Rain’s Lance Bass and Weather Icon’s JC Chasez* of the weather forecast world. They’re white-hot, whether it’s a literal heat wave or not.
(* I want to point out I asked the internet to rank the 5 members of N’Sync by popularity to find the Top 3, so send any complaints about “Where’s Fatone and Kirkpatrick?” to whoever runs the internet. I don’t think you even need a stamp.)
But unless we’re deep in an arctic freeze, low temperatures are the sidekick. More like Vanilla Ice than Ice-T. Even going back in my forecasts here: How many times have I mentioned the predicted high temperatures versus the predicted lows? I’ll bet it’s like 51-0. (No, I’m not going to count )
Part of it is: Who besides the night owls are eagerly chasing what the temperature is like at 3 or 4 a.m.? The other part is: The lows around here hardly ever change, especially in summer. Sunny and 85? Lows are in the 50s. Sunny and 75? Lows are in the 50s. Cloudy or rainy and in the 60s? Lows are in the 50s. July 15 had a high of 86 and a low of 56. July 25 had a high of 71 and a low of 55.
WELL NO MORE! THIS WEEK, WE HONOR THE HIGHS *AND* THE LOWS!
And that’s because the low temperatures are going to say something they haven’t said in month:
WE’RE GOING TO THE 40S!
That’s right! With clearing skies Sunday night, the temperature dropped below 50 for the first time since mid June. The official low so far in Seattle was 46 — and of course I point this out because let’s face it, you skipped right over it on your app, right? That would be the coldest temperature we’ve felt since May 18
What’s more: The lows stay in the (upper) 40s all week!
But because people do buy the tickets to see the stars, let’s not forget the marquee parts of the forecast either: The clearing skies are coming courtesy of a budding high pressure area that are going to keep the skies crystal blue Sunday through Tuesday with ultra-comfortable highs in the upper 60s and even low 70s on Tuesday (that’s actually a fair amount above average now!)
We’ll cool back into the 60s the rest of the week with some clouds and a few showers returning to the forecast, then a better chance of showers over the weekend. By then, lows in the 40s will start to feel routine, but low temperatures will still be relevant here in this blog.
This, I Promise You!
So happy you’re back doing PNW weather again!
