Dogs on a rainy day in Everett
It’s been a very stormy start to the stormy season around Seattle — we’re still picking up the pieces from our elaborate Halloween decorations blown across the porch and yard — but what say we let some other parts of the West Coast take a bit off our plate this week?
There are indeed two more atmospheric river storms heading into the West this week, but now it’s southern Oregon and Northern California’s turn to take the brunt.
It’s a calm Monday up here — a very weak system will sneak in a little rain from the south and southwest during the afternoon here. This is light, Seattle-usual stuff. Most of the rain will be from Seattle-south, with some fringe rain making it up into Everett and Snohomish County. Those north of there may scoot by the day dry or with just a few sprinkles.
That rain drifts out of here by Monday night, and it’s actually looking like a decent break Tuesday if you need to get in that extended walk. I’m sure the pets are like: “Does it ever stop raining anymore?” You can fake them out on Tuesday. Because, spoiler alert, they’re not going to be happy with you on Wednesday…
That’s when the next atmospheric river storm comes in, but as mentioned earlier, it’s taking more direct aim at southern Oregon and Northern California. Aside from heavy rain, High Wind Warnings and Watches are up down there — 60 mph in southern Oregon coast; maybe 70 mph in far Northern California like Eureka and Humboldt Bay.

(By the way following up on my post yesterday about the Hurricane Hunters checking out this storm, they were unavailable for flights Tuesday — not unusual — but they’ve at least been requested for Wednesday and Thursday.)
We are still going to get the fringe effects from that system up here so it’ll be another rainy and blustery period late Tuesday through Wednesday. Just aside from trashing the commutes and making for some very frowny pets, is not expected to have much impact. We may eke out a low-end Wind Advisory on the coast and NW Interior but you’re getting awfully used to those already and shouldn’t have impacts.
WE DRY OUT THEN, RIGHT? MY DOG IS ABOUT TO BOOK ITS OWN TRIP TO ARIZONA.
Better hope he doesn’t have access to your credit card….
That storm ends Wednesday night but the break may be all of about 12 hours before the next storm comes rolling in on Thursday — this one, also an “AR” but a little different than before: It’ll be a little wetter and windier than the midweek one.
The setup is a bit of a change; this storm has a very deep low pressure center but luckily is set to make landfall well north of Vancouver Island.

Still, that’s in a good spot to make for a windy Thursday along the coast and Northwest Interior. (Seattle/Puget Sound area protected from the stronger winds by the Olympic Mountains).
Suffice to say, it’s a wet and blustery Thursday, with rain lingering into midday Friday before tapering off.
“TAPERING OFF” — FOR WHAT, LIKE 10 MINUTES?
Actually, no! You’re not going to believe this but the *next* storm in line may actually spin up offshore over the weekend, stalling it and keeping the rain away.
It’s even possible that…. I hate to type this; totally going to jinx it but, then again all my “don’t jinx it” didn’t work for the Mariners in Game 7 so… IT MIGHT NOT RAIN THIS WEEKEND.
Or at least it might not rain much. Still a risk of a few scattered default showers for it being early November, but compared to the last two Saturdays, this might be your chance. Maybe do a 5K with your pet.
WOW! COULD TIHS LAST INTO MONDAY?
Umm, no. Long range models so far suggest rain returns Sunday night. Sorry Fido. Just in case you need it, the airport code you’re looking for is “PHX”….
